Welding Alloys Solution

How WA solved the challenge

Upon reviewing the problem with the customer, we proposed doing a trial with a HARDLITE 3+3 plate welded onto the original AR plate. Our HARDLITE 3+3 lasted 18 months while the AR blade only lasted 6 months. By understanding the functionality of the vertical mill and the air flow pattern to which these blades were subjected to, we then proposed the redesign of these blades by fabricating the entire blade with HARDLITE: Welded back-to-back HARDLITE 2+2. Total blade thickness: 8mm. The perimeter is also hardfaced so there are no exposed areas. Total number of fabricated blades: 94 Total number of HARDLITE 2+2 (Large) plates used: 74

Technical Advantages

With the proposed back-to-back HARDLITE solution, these blades have been lasting over 2 - 2.5 years in service. Sometimes, the plant will replace a couple of blades not because these are worn, but because they have suffered impacts from rocks and the blades are starting to chip. By not having to replace these 94 classifier blades every 6 months, the plant has saved money and downtime. During outages, the plant can now focus their attention on other matters and not having the mill blocked for blades replacement.
