The challenge the customer was facing
WA Integra originally started welding these segments on a fabricated jig. Once welding was complete, the roll segments had to be cut apart using gouging rods and then cleaned up with a grinder. This work caused the segment joints to become brittle. This resulted in premature breakouts/wear.

How WA solved the challenge
WA Integra team gouged rolls to even out the low spots at joints then did stop and go welding to even out the rest of the unevenness and make sure the joints were repaired. Once that work was completed the team then used the WPS for Mill 415 Build Up with Mill 600 Cap.
